Debbie, a friend at work, is quite the knitter. So after I saw the Firefly episode The Message, in which Jayne receives a hat knit by his Mom, I asked Debbie if she could knit me one. Turns out if you just Google 'Jayne Cobb Hat', you can find lots of pictures and patterns for the hat. It's not quite as insanely bright as the flash in the picture makes it seem.
As Wash said in the same episode, "Man walks down the street in a hat like that, you know he's not afraid of anything." .
Unrelated to my hat, I love that pink lip gloss I'm wearing in the picture. It's Revlon. It's a nice sheer color but it also has vitamins, emolients and (I think) sun screen, so it's good for my lips too. I chucked my chapstick and wear this instead. I have gotten quite fond of lip gloss, which has come a long way from the slick, sticky, fake-fruit-smelling Bonnie Bell lipgloss of my childhood.
Only downside? Tough to wear on a windy day, as your hair will get stuck in it. Thank goodness I now have this hat to keep my hair off my face.
Another great lip gloss is Prrr by MAC. It is what I call a sunny California Girl Pink. It's just a happy color, a pretty shiny pale pink and not too obnoxious.
Anyway, I just wanted to show off the hat Debbie made me. I'm sure it will serve me well this winter. Two people at work, who I must add have never watched Firefly, saw me with my hat on and commented "That is so YOU", which I think was meant as a compliment.
(another hat quote from Firefly) Kaylee: "I think it’s the sweetest hat ever."
'Course you left out Womack's remark to Jayne about the hat.
But on YOU it looks GOOD!

If you start singing 'the Ballad of Jayne' then someone needs to stage an intervention.. ;-)

Whedon-geek alert:
Actually, that's "The Hero of Canton" not the "Ballad of Jayne."
Thankfully, I'm not too far gone. I can't sing the whole thing through yet without looking at the lyrics.
The Ballad of Serenity, on the other hand...

How did Rock and roll bring us to the music we have today?
For example, how did rock inspire artists to create music genres such as rap, and other new songs/genres that we now have. Also, did rock and roll always have a rebellious tune? If not how did it change to that?
